A Parable of Immortality

by Henry Van Dyke

I am standing upon the seashore.

A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.

She is an object of beauty and strength.

I stand and watch until at last she hangs like a speck of white cloud

just where the sea and the sky come to mingle with each other.

Then someone says, "There she goes!"   Gone where?

Gone from my sight, that is all.

She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side

and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination.

Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone at my side says, "There she goes"

there are other eyes watching her coming

and their voices ready to take up the glad shouts,

"Here she comes!"

Attended memorial service

Family & guests on Lanikai beach with minister for aloha memorial ceremony - including flowers - $400

8 a.m. only

For attended memorials, we have a memorial service on the shoreline.
Beloved's cremains will be placed in seat number 5, of a 6 person canoe.
They paddle out towards the reef directly offshore from Lanikai Beach.

These wonderful paddlers are volunteers.

A donation is made to their club on behalf of the family.
There will likely be a gentle breeze blowing  and the water inside the reef is calm

while the waves outside the reef are breaking into surf on the reef.

The cremains are gently released to the warm waters and to be with God for eternity.
There is not a prepared script to read since we speak from the emotions that we experience at that moment .
Each of the crew, without  prompting, then spontaneously  and simply say their  individual farewells as if they had been a friend.
While they did not  personally know the deceased, we all feel a  common bond knowing
that  we all will experience this moment in time when we go to God.
It is a very tranquil setting.

We  sit in silence for a few moments as the ashes settled into the sea, then we paddled back.

Our memorials are respectful and heartfelt…
We feel honored that you allow us to serve your family in this way..

With no family or guests, the fee is $230. Flowers not included.

100 flowers are $40.

With attendees, the fee is $400, includes flowers.

I wanted to send you many thank you's for your assistance in scattering the ashes of my father.

My family and I all agreed, the service was beautiful and the evening couldn't have been more appropriate if we had tried.

You made the whole event very simple and stress free, so if you ever need a recommendation, I'd be happy to give a glowing endorsement

The ceremony at sea for my beloved Mother was the perfect place for setting her free.

I am comforted to know that she is finally home among loved ones.

Mahalo for making a difficult journey for me one that I will always cherish.

Aloha,     JoLynn
